12/7/2015 0 Comments Five ways to promote your content![]() There’s been a lot written about the importance of having a blog. But once you have managed to get one started, and more importantly keep it going past a few weeks, how do you get others to read it? First and foremost, share. Does your website’s blog have a share button? It should. Not only does it allow you to share, but it also allows others to do so without having to copy and paste the link. While you don’t need to share on every social media site, select a few where you think your target audience might be. I share mine on Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and LinkedIn. Always add art to your blog, this makes it possible then to share it on such social media sites as Instagram and Pinterest. Ask others to share. This can be tricky as you don’t want to become a pest. Find someone who you think might be interested in what you are writing about and ask them for their opinion. You might then suggest that if they think it’s worth it you would appreciate their sharing it with others. Find other blogs that have to do with your area of interests and comment with a link to your blog, but only if it adds value to what the other blogger has to say. For example, if someone writes a blog about five ways to share content and you have written a similar blog, but with other suggestions you might say something like “Great suggestions, here are a few more I would like to share,” with a link to your blog.
While you can’t always count on someone to go to your website to read your blog, why not send your blogs to them? Create a newsletter that includes information of interest to your potential readers, along with a few links to the blogs you have written. At the very least this will make folks aware of the fact that you have a blog. Link to yourself. Did you notice at the start of this blog I included a link to a blog I previously wrote about why your business needs a blog? This is a great way to get others to read older posts that they might not have previously read. It’s not easy growing a following. It can take weeks, months and sometimes, yes, even years. But, by following these five simple steps, you can start down the path of growing your audience. Feel free to comment and add your own suggestions. Susan R.
